چکیده

Some chemical substances have the potential to enter coastal and marine environment cause adverse effects on ecosystems, biodiversity human health. For a large majority of them, their fate are poorly understood as well use still unregulated. Finding effective sustainable strategies for identification these emerging and/or anthropogenic contaminants that might polluting in environments mitigate effects, is utmost importance great challenge managers, regulators researchers. In this review we will evaluate impact (ECs) zones namely ecosystems biodiversity, highlighting risks organic pollutants, pharmaceuticals personal care products. Emerging microextraction techniques high-resolution analytical platforms used isolation, quantification ECs be also reviewed.

Orthogonal analytical approaches to detect potential contaminants in heparin.

Heparin is a widely used anticoagulant and antithrombotic agent. Recently, a contaminant, oversulfated chondroitin sulfate (OSCS), was discovered within heparin preparations. The presence of OSCS within heparin likely led to clinical manifestations, most prevalently, hypotension and abdominal pain leading to the deaths of several dozens of patients. Given the biological effects of OSCS, one con...

Which coastal and marine environmental contaminants are truly emerging?

To better understand the past and present impact of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in coastal and marine ecosystems, archived samples were analyzed for a broad suite of analytes, including pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), flame retardants (including PBDEs), perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), and current-use pesticides. Surface sediment, mussels (Mytilus spp.) and sedim...

Approaches to detecting immunotoxic effects of environmental contaminants in humans.

Experimental animal studies indicate that environmental contaminants can have adverse effects on several organs and tissues of the immune system. Such effects are known to lead to increased host susceptibility to microbial infections and to compromised immunosurveillance mechanisms normally instrumental in the elimination of neoplastic cells and the prevention of autoimmune diseases. Evaluation...

Approaches to Monitoring Organic Environmental Contaminants in Food

Trace quantities of potentially toxic organic compounds are frequently found in the environment. These compounds sometimes possess properties that may have teratogenic, mutagenic, and even carcinogenic effects on humans and animals. Some of the compounds, such as pesticides, have been intentionally released into the environment (1), while others have found their way into the environment by acci...

6.3 Environmental Simulation Zones and Extrapolation of Impact Outcomes

Methods to predict the use of new technology at locations other than where experimental data exist also involved the use of spatially explicit analysis and the concept of geographic equivalence. First, the geographic characteristics of areas were identified in which experimental data existed on the performance of crops using new technology. Then, areas of geographic equivalence were identified ...
